Determined to earn respect, Ren accepts an impossible task -find and eliminate three dangerous Yokai demons – and learns how far she’ll go to claim her place at Death’s side. Accompanied by her younger brother, Ren enters the Japanese underworld to serve the Goddess of Death, only to learn that here, too, she must prove herself worthy. When her failure to control her Shinigami abilities drives Ren out of London, she flees to Japan to seek acceptance she’s never gotten from her fellow Reapers. Expected to obey the harsh hierarchy of the Reapers who despise her, Ren conceals her emotions and avoids her tormentors as best she can. Summary: Half British Reaper, half Japanese Shinigami, Ren Scarborough has been collecting souls in the London streets for centuries. ![]() ![]() ![]() And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. And the stress of their lives-and the way they understand each other so completely-has also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. As de facto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings. Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Perfect for readers who enjoyed Flowers in the Attic, this is a heartbreaking and shocking novel about siblings Lochan and Maya, their tumultuous home life, and the clandestine, and taboo, relationship they form to get through it. ![]() ![]() ![]() The rusty metal legs of the bed whined as they scraped against the floor. Semi-anonymous sexual encounters, gallows humor, and classic films are his tools for staving off the dying of the light. Now he must witness the slow demise of a friend just a shade older than he is. King's style of location-names in the series, such as Mid-World, and his development of a unique language ( High Speech), are also influenced by J.R.R. He identifies Clint Eastwood's "Man with No Name" character as one of the major inspirations for Roland. Amongst his other inspiration, King lists The Lord of the Rings, the Arthurian Legend, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly as influences that led to the series. The series has many inspirations, but was chiefly inspired by the poem, Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came, by Robert Browning, which also gave its name to an novel by C.S. There are now comics that are being based on the series itself, specifically The Gunslinger. After the series was finished, a series of prequel comics followed. Besides the eight novels that compose the series proper, many of his other books relate back to the story, introducing concepts and characters that come into play as the series progresses. They revolve around Roland Deschain's quest to find and protect the Dark Tower. The series incorporates elements of fantasy, science fiction, horror, and Western stories. The Dark Tower Series is a series of eight books and one novella written by Stephen King, between 19, widely considered to be (and described by King himself as) his magnum opus. ![]() |
